How Fashion Can Change Lives: The b.LOOM Project Story

 

 The Stellar Fashion Gala, a fundraising charity event organized by the Mindanao Trade Expo Foundation, Inc. (MTEFI) and benefiting the weaving communities of b.LOOM Project, featured a 100-piece collection presented by members of the Davao Fashion and Design Council Foundation Inc. (DFDCI).

Showcasing the use of Philippine tropical fabrics—abaca, bandala, piña, banana, kawayarn, and other textiles—the Luxe Resort collection was held at the opulent Samal Grand Ballroom at Discovery Samal in Davao. Designers like Aztec Barba, Dodjie Batu, Emi Englis, Popoy Barba, Edgar Buyan, Egay Ayag, Windel Mira, and Benjie Panizales produced these textiles in collaboration with DOST—the Philippine Textile Research Institute.

There was more to the Stellar Fashion Gala than just an incredibly stylish evening featuring uniquely Philippine textiles. The launch of the b.LOOM Project, DFDCFI's initiative to reposition the Davao artisanal weaving brand by realigning to the nation's perceived fashion niche in view of design identity and regenerative sustainability, was showcased during this incredible labor of love. The b.LOOM Project is a global handmade brand showcasing DFDCFI’s particular Davao niche in fashion beyond the loom.

The sustainable enterprise program on indigenous and emerging artisanal textile weaving among the extra-mile creative communities in the Davao Region was supported by the event's proceeds, which were donated to the b.LOOM Project. The Mindanao Trade Expo Foundation, Inc. (MTEFI) played a vital role in ensuring suitable villages were identified and the money was effectively disbursed. 

DFDCFI is a recognized leader in originality and innovation in the region, having participated actively in events such as Miss Universe, Manila FAME, and other fashion festivals.
